Introduction

Flickr Schedulr is a Windows desktop application that automatically uploads pictures and videos to Flickr based on a schedule (e.g. to post a new picture every day at a certain time). This effectively takes the hassle of uploading pictures and videos at regular intervals away, and allows you to go out and have fun shooting pictures (or drinking beer) while your photoblog is maintained for you.

Of course, you don't have to schedule your uploads, it's also a fine stand-alone Flickr upload tool as it is. It allows you to create a queue of files to be uploaded, along with their titles, descriptions, tags, photosets and groups into which they should end up, and lots of other details. You can group them into batches that should be uploaded together. And a flexible plugin mechanism adds tons of other functionality - like automatically importing metadata, determining photosets and groups, monitoring folders for new files, and modifying pictures or videos before they are uploaded (e.g. to resize, add watermarks or borders).

Features

Flickr Schedulr has the following major features:

Edit multiple files at once so you can make changes to lots of files at the same time.
Warns you if there are files in your queue that are larger than the maximum file size you are allowed to upload.
Files can be placed in batches to be uploaded together.
Batches can be configured to create a new photoset when they are uploaded.
Drag and drop files onto the queue from Windows Explorer.
Multiple Flickr accounts are supported, you're not limited to just one user account.
A Windows scheduled task can easily be created to define and maintain the upload schedule.
Can be run from the command line with the "/upload /account:name" switch to upload the next batch of files in the queue.
Keeps a history of all files that have been uploaded.
Shows you all your important account information, e.g. your remaining upload quota.
Import and export the configuration to a file (e.g. for backup and restore).

Flickr Schedulr has the following major features:

Easily maintain a queue of pictures and videos to be uploaded to Flickr.
Edit the title, description and tags for each file, as well as the location, privacy, search visibility, content type and license, and set the photosets and groups to which it must be added.
Edit multiple files at once so you can make changes to lots of files at the same time.
Warns you if there are files in your queue that are larger than the maximum file size you are allowed to upload.

Convert To Black & White (for pictures only): converts a picture to black and white.
Run Program (for pictures and videos): runs an arbitrary program before uploading (e.g. ffmpeg to process video files).
Save Copy (for pictures and videos): saves a copy of the fully rendered file so you can have a copy of the exact file that was uploaded.

Writing Plugins

To create plugins that extend the way the application works, you can create a .NET assembly that contains your plugins and simply place the .dll file in the application directory. They will automatically be discovered when the application starts up, and get added to the available plugins in the Events screen.

If you do create any plugins, please share them with the community so that everyone can benefit from your great work!

Quickstart Guide

To get started, create a new .NET 4 class library project in Visual Studio and add a reference to "Schedulr.Common.dll".

There are two major types of plugins: event plugins and rendering plugins. Your plugin classes should implement either the IEventPlugin or IRenderingPlugin interface. If your plugin needs to store settings, you must also implement the ISupportSettings interface. For your convenience, there are also 4 base classes that already provide all the basic functionality of these interfaces, so you can just derive from the appropriate EventPlugin or RenderingPlugin class.

To register your plugin and declare which events or renderings you support, add the [Plugin] attribute and at least one [SupportedXXX] attribute.

Finally, implement the appropriate interface methods (or override the base class methods you're interested in).

For more information, it's best to look at the source code for the built-in plugins to understand how they work.

Below is the full source code for the built-in "Delete File" plugin. This is a very simple plugin that doesn't have any settings, but it shows how easy it can be to write plugins.

Upgrading From v2.x

In v3.0, there have been changes to the underlying configuration system but your existing configuration will be migrated automatically. Settings that used to be built in but that are now available as plugins (e.g. monitoring folders, importing metadata when adding files, or deleting files after upload) will also be automatically converted to their new plugin counterparts.

Upgrading From v1.x

In v2.0, there have been substantial changes to the underlying configuration system, so initially your upload queue will not be automatically migrated from the previous version. Open the previous version of the application and export the configuration to a file (in the Options screen). Then start the new version, select an account in the Accounts screen, click Import Pictures and select the configuration file you just saved. The queued pictures will be imported into the upload queue of the selected account.

Click "Create Basic Task..."

Fill in a recognizable task name and description.

Define the trigger, i.e. when the task will be started.

Depending on the trigger type, fill in additional fields to define the exact schedule.

Configure the action to "Start a program".

Fill in the full path to the Flickr Schedulr executable and specify "/upload" as the argument (this is very important). If you have multiple Flickr accounts, specify the name of the account between quotes, e.g.: /upload "My Flickr Account". Otherwise the default account is used.

Click Finish. Flickr Schedulr is now ready to start uploading your pictures!

How can I process videos (e.g. to resize them) before they are uploaded?

You can use the "Run Program" rendering plugin to execute any arbitrary program.

One of the well-known video processing tools that you can use is FFmpeg (although finding a ready-to-use version of it is challenging). Once you have FFmpeg installed, you can configure the Run Program rendering plugin to execute it. There are many options in the tool which won't be explained here, but the following settings should work out of the box to resize the input video to 1024 pixels:

Web Proxy Configuration

If you have a web proxy server through which you connect to the internet, normally this is automatically detected (i.e. the application uses the same settings as Internet Explorer on your machine). If for some reason this doesn't work, you can manually configure the proxy settings by editing the "Schedulr.exe.config" file in your installation directory. There are two options: you can either set the default proxy to use, or you can configure a specific proxy just for the FlickrNet library that is used behind the scenes. Getting Started

The first time you run the application, you will get the accounts screen where you can add your Flickr user account. You'll be asked to authenticate with Flickr and authorize this application to access your account (this is needed to upload files). You can then simply add the files to be uploaded to Flickr in the "Queue" screen. You can either use the "Add" or "Add Batch" buttons or drag and drop files onto the queue.

The title, description, tags and geographic location are automatically filled in if the file file contained this information, otherwise enter the necessary details for each file yourself. You can also specify the photosets and groups to which the file should be added in Flickr, along with other details like the visibility and license. You can change the defaults in the Options screen, e.g. to always use the same photoset for all files that are added.

Then you can create a Windows scheduled task to run Flickr Schedulr at your desired schedule: every time the task is run, the next batch of files in the queue will be uploaded and moved to the "Uploads" screen. To create the task, simply specify your desired schedule in the application and click "Create" to activate the task. Alternatively, you can also use Windows Tasks Scheduler yourself to define the task (see instructions on the Scheduling help page).

Introduction

Flickr Schedulr is a Windows desktop application that automatically uploads pictures and videos to Flickr based on a schedule (e.g. to post a new picture every day at a certain time). Introduction

Flickr Schedulr is a Windows desktop application that automatically uploads pictures and videos to Flickr based on a schedule (e.g. to post a new picture every day at a certain time). It allows you to create a queue of files to be uploaded, along with their titles, descriptions, tags, photosets and groups into which they should end up, and lots of other details.

This effectively takes the hassle of uploading pictures and videos at regular intervals away, and allows you to go out and have fun shooting pictures (or drinking beer) while your photoblog is maintained for you.

Command Line Options

You can use the following command line options:

Schedulr [/account:name] [/upload] [/add | /addbatch] [file1 file2...]

/account: the name of the Flickr account to use (to upload or add files to); if this is not specified, the default account will be used.
/upload will upload the next batch of files from the specified account to Flickr.
/add will add the specified files to the queue of the specified account as individual batches (one batch per file).
/addbatch will add the specified files to the queue of the specified account as one single batch.
file1 file2...: the file(s) to add to the queue of the specified account.

None of these arguments are required, and if you only pass in a list of files they will simply be added as individual batches to the queue of the default account.

Examples:

Getting Started

The first time you run the application, you will get the accounts screen where you can add your Flickr user account. You'll be asked to authenticate with Flickr and authorize this application to access your account (this is needed to upload pictures). You can then simply add the pictures to be uploaded to Flickr in the "Queued Pictures" list. You can either use the "Add" or "Add Batch" buttons or drag and drop files onto the queue.

The title, description and tags are automatically filled in if the picture file contained this information, otherwise enter the necessary details for each picture yourself. You can also specify the photosets and groups to which the picture should be added in Flickr, along with other details like the visibility and license. You can change the defaults in the Options screen, e.g. to always use the same photoset for all files that are added.

Then you can create a Windows scheduled task to run Flickr Schedulr at your desired schedule: every time the task is run, the next batch of pictures in the queue will be uploaded and moved to the "Uploaded Pictures" screen. To create the task, simply specify your desired schedule in the application and click "Create" to activate the task. Alternatively, you can also use Windows Tasks Scheduler yourself to define the task (see instructions on the Scheduling help page).

Introduction

Flickr Schedulr is a Windows desktop application that automatically uploads pictures and videos to Flickr based on a schedule (e.g. to post a new picture every day at a certain time). It allows you to create a queue of pictures to be uploaded, along with their titles, descriptions, tags, photosets and groups into which they should end up, and lots of other details.

Getting Started

The first time you run the application, you will get the accounts screen where you can add your Flickr user account. You'll be asked to authenticate with Flickr and authorize this application to access your account (this is needed to upload pictures). You can then simply add the pictures to be uploaded to Flickr in the "Queued Pictures" list. You can either use the "Add" or "Add Batch" buttons or drag and drop files onto the queue.

The title, description and tags are automatically filled in if the picture file contained this information, otherwise enter the necessary details for each picture yourself. - You can now get inline previews of the pictures inside the Queued Pictures list.
- You can now import and export the current configuration (containing queued and uploaded pictures).
- You can now see how many items are in the queue and which one you are editing.
- You can now easily navigate up and down in the queue from anywhere with the ALT-UP and ALT-DOWN keys.
